CORNWALL TOURISM CELEBRATES ITS BEST
Truro Cathedral was host to multiple celebrations last night (7 November) as 63 awards were presented in the 23rd annual Cornwall Tourism Awards. The awards following entertainment from Mimi Attenburrow, inaugural winner of the Cornwall Comedian of the Year award, and an insightful presentation from Adrian Richards from Via Ferrata Cornwall and BF Adventure.
Awards covered everything from glamping, camping, hotels and B&Bs to cafes, pubs, restaurants, attractions and experiences. There were also cross sector awards for ethical, responsible and sustainable tourism, international tourism, access and inclusivity and new tourism businesses.
Three special awards were announced, the first being the Outstanding Contribution to Tourism Award for the Mylor Sailing School, in recognition of their ongoing leadership and national profile. A further special award was the Winner of Winners award for Lydcott Glamping. Both Mylor Sailing School and Lydcott Glamping had earlier won two Gold awards.
A third special award was presented to Lovat Parks in recognition for their commitment to Regenerative Tourism. This was announced by headline sponsors Falmouth University, referring to Lovat’s respect for the environment, community, culture and communications. Paul Russell from Falmouth University said: “They believe in business being a force for good, and are the first B-Corp holiday park group”.
Gold winners in many categories will now be nominated to represent Cornwall in the national VisitEngland Awards in 2025.
Michael Steel, Managing Director of Visit Cornwall, said: “It’s inspiring to see so many businesses dedicated to excellence in Cornish tourism. Special congratulations go out to the business owners, managers, and every single team member whose hard work and passion make these achievements possible.”
Awards organiser Robin Barker added: “It’s always fabulous to celebrate the very best in Cornish tourism. Businesses that whatever the challenge continue to keep Cornwall at the fore in terms of service, innovation, accessibility and sustainability. Congratulations to each and every winner.”
